Strawberry Mint Bliss – A Delicious Summer Drink

It has been a few weeks since we last spoke, and I am sure you guys will be just as excited as I am about today’s drink recipe! The name says it all, Strawberry Mint Bliss, a blend of fresh strawberries with crushed mint and a couple other yummy ingredients. There is just something about Strawberry Cocktails and summertime to me!  It is everything you need on a hot summer day while sitting out under the shade of your patio umbrella, or while in the pool (which is how I plan to enjoy it over and over again).

Summertime Bliss Drink

I made this tasty drink for Mother’s Day this past weekend for my mom and pregnant sister (eee!) so of course I had to make one non-alcoholic, and it honestly tasted just as good. We all slurped them back pretty quick while we enjoyed our waffle bar brunch, and agreed that it is a winner for the hot days we have ahead. It is simply a gorgeous drink to look at with the combination of bright red strawberries and the green mint leaves and it is finished off with the addition of Italian Soda really makes it quite refreshing.

Now personally I enjoy my Strawberry Cocktail with Rum but you could easily do this with vodka, gin or any other alcohol you prefer! The fun thing with making your own drinks is the ability to customize them to your tastes and preferences! You can even add a splash of lemon-lime soda to give it a little tang. The possibilities are only as endless as your imagination.

Strawberry Mint Bliss

This summer drink combines bright red strawberries and fresh mint and it is finished off with the addition of Italian Soda to make it refreshing.

  • 1 bottle Strawberry Italian Soda 1 L
  • 1 bunch Fresh Mint washed
  • 1 pacakge Fresh Strawberries rinsed and sliced
  • White Rum adjust to your taste - I do 2 oz per glass

  • Pour soda into a drink pitcher and add rum to your preferred taste (I did about 1/2 c for the entire jug but you can do more or less).
  • Rip off about 1/3 c of mint leaves and gently "crush" between your fingers to release the oils, add to pitcher of soda.
  • Stir all the above ingredients together in the pitcher and add your sliced strawberries (I reserved a couple to place on the glass for added fun!).
  • Serve in mason jars with green straws to compliment the mint, and ENJOY

Salted Caramel Hot Chocolate + Spiked Version!

Well, another month is upon us friends, and that means it is time for another Recipe Swap!!! This month I was given Simply Made Recipes, which you guys should recognize as Amber has been a part of our “Featured Recipes” section a couple of times, so it is no surprise that I knew exactly what I was going to make. With it being so close to Christmas, and the weather getting cooler, I chose to make her Salted Caramel Hot Chocolate recipe…and boy are you guys in for a real treat!!

This is the perfect drink for you to enjoy after a day out on the toboggan hill (or ski hill if you are adventurous enough!). It only takes 5 minutes to make and is a big enough batch to serve 6, which is great for all the excited kiddos and adults alike. Now, with me being lactose intolerant I chose to make a couple of adjustments to the recipe and I can tell you it is still INCREDIBLY tasty and you will not miss out on the heavy cream etc if you choose to make it this way instead. I also have a curious hubby who thought it would be a good idea to “spike” his cup…and boy was I GLAD that he did! I mean YUM, a little shot of Smirnoff Fluffy Marshmallow Vodka will leave your taste buds dancing. Anyway, here you have it, the BEST Salted Caramel Hot Chocolate Recipe you will try all year, with an adult version for those of us who like a little kick!

  • Coconut Whipped Cream
  • Chocolate Chips
  • Caramel Sauce

  • Combine ingredients for the Hot Chocolate in a saucepan over medium heat.
  • Whisk constantly until all ingredients have combined and continue to cook over medium heat until desired temperature (about 5 minutes).

  • *add in a shot of your favorite vodka for adult version! We used Smirnoff Fluffy Marshmallow.

tips and tricks for the perfect salted caramel hot chocolate
  • Keep the temperature no higher than medium when whisking together the ingredients (this will keep the chocolate and caramel sauce from burning)
  • Use less caramel sauce if you don’t like your drinks too sweet (this is a very sweet and indulgent drink) I think next time we make it I would use half the amount the recipe calls for
  • If you want to try something different, you can always use a semi-sweet or dark chocolate rather than the milk chocolate chips
  • You can use regular whipped cream, or even chocolate whipped cream (yep they make it!) if you don’t like coconut…but let me tell you it is DELISH!
  • Have fun with your toppings, let the kiddos have a choice from a few goodies they can add on. My suggestions? Chocolate Chips, Marshmallows, Toasted Coconut, Peppermint Chips, and anything else your heart desires!

Strawberries- Farm to Table

It’s STRAWBERRY season! We live in quite a rural area, with many farms around us, and everywhere we drive the signs are up for “Pick Your Own Strawberries”  and I can’t tell you how excited that makes me! There is nothing better in this world than harvesting super fresh produce and bringing it home to make some tasty treats. A local blogger recently put up a fabulous post about picking your own strawberries, giving you a perfect starting point : Adventures in Picking Strawberries.

Now that you know the HOW, let’s take a look at all the goodies you can make with them! Prepare yourselves friends…you are going to want to make them all at once…my suggestion? Pick enough at the farm to do just that 🙂 (why would I try to tell you not to, that’s just silly!!). Remember, you can freeze strawberries to use later too…so what’s the harm in 6 baskets at once!?
